Behind every bag of flour on a local shelf there is a long chain of transport and storage. The food warehouse at Quinta do Coito Grande shortens that chain.
Organic and local food is stored and distributed from here to households, shops and businesses across southern Alentejo and the western Algarve, through a non-profit, member-run network with collection points in several villages and towns.
Dry goods arrive in bulk, are weighed and packed on site, and leave again in the quantities people actually need.
Buying together makes the local economy stronger. Transparency on origin and prices, less packaging and fair work are the principles behind the shelves you see in this warehouse.
